In the command center, Kallen and Lando looked out into the black void of space. The panoramic view showed the accompanying single battleship and seven cruisers that were their escorts. Lando had spared nothing to secure Kallen from possible danger, although deep inside, Kallen thought it was a bit of an overkill.

“Nothing is overkill when it comes to your safety, Your Majesty.”

Kallen smirked at the affront in Lando’s voice and didn’t mind the referral to his temporary title. Once he’d rescued the rest of the eggs from Nigul’s secret hatching grounds, he would make sure his father got reinstated. He accepted the fact he was going to be king eventually, but not yet. Not when his father still had a chance to live with a symbiont that would heal him and make him stronger.

He looked at his lover beside him, admiring the way he stood taller in his status as lord commander. Ever since he’d become partners with Dobik, Lando had become overly protective, if that were at all possible, and spared no detail to all of Oryon’s security.

“Kallen, we’re ready.”

Lando’s voice woke him from his musings and Kallen turned his attention to looking out into space. Calling forth his magic, he raised his wand. Electricity crackled over the ship’s surface and those of their escorts outside. Lando smiled at how the crew, including the Lord General and the captain, tensed and tightened their grips on their chairs. With a smile on his lips, Kallen flicked his wand, and the space conduit opened before them.

Without warning, Kallen twisted his wrist, and the wand hummed. In a blink of an eye, the ship and their escorts crossed space and time. He turned to look at Lando who rolled his eyes. Kallen laughed low.

“Lord General, Captain. I apologize for the king. He cannot help showing off.”

The Lord General cleared his throat. “That’s all right, Lord Commander. It’s his ship, after all. And of course, we have to let him have his moment of fun.”

Kallen’s eyes widened in surprise, but the low laughter that rippled through the bridge was infectious, and soon he was laughing with them. When their destination was reached after a few minutes, Kallen warned the crew.

“Lord Commander, Lord General, Captain, we’re here.”

“On your mark, Your Majesty,” came Tanis’ reply through the ship’s speakers.

“Mark.”

The ships all slowed down as they neared open space. Kallen twisted his wrist once more, and the conduit began to close behind them. Ahead of them was the ravaged planet that had once been Nigul.

“Goddess.”

The softly spoken word made Kallen turn to Lando whose attention was held by something beside the ship. Kallen’s gaze shifted over along with the rest of the crew who stood in silent shock at the vision before them. Before long, all of the bridge crew was crowding against each other, wanting to take a better look at the playing dragons.

The enormous form of a black dragon appeared to be swimming in space, its silvery crest glistening and rising high over his massive head.
